Origin & Legend - Swami Haridas and Nidhivan, Vrindavan
The sacred Banke Bihari Ki Aarti lyrics celebrate the divine beauty of Thakur Shree Banke Bihari Ji of Vrindavan Dham. According to Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition, saint-musician Swami Haridas Ji manifested the Lord in the sixteenth century. He revealed the divine deity through devotional music in the sacred grove of Nidhivan, Vrindavan. Tradition reveres Swami Haridas Ji as Lalita Sakhi in the divine pastimes of the Lord.
This sacred deity manifested around Samvat 1604 (approx. 1547 CE) from the holy earth of Nidhivan. Swami Haridas Ji's foremost disciple, Shri Vitthal Vipuldev, later enshrined the Lord in a dedicated temple.
